And oh! how that thought consoled poor Mrs. Newton; she did notleave God,--God did not leave her.
So she left the abode of her youthfuler years--the scene of herwidowhood; and she went away to hire a poor lodging in the outlets ofLondon; but her God was with her, and the kid she had nursed inside herprosperity was her comfort in adversity.
Matters, however, went no much better when she lived with little Fanny ina poor lodging. She had only one friend in London, and she lived at adistance from her. Mrs. Newton fell ill; there was no one to nurseher but Fanny; she could no longer pay for her schooling, andsometimes she was not able to teach her herself.
