"0f a tumult?" said in reply Cornelius, fixing his eyes on hisperplexed brother; "a tumult?"

"Yes, Cornelius."

"0h! that's what I heard just now," said the prisoner, as ifspeaking to himself. Then, turning to his brother, hecontinued, --

"Are there many persons down before the prison."

"Yes, my brother, there are."
