'It would not take much of a grave for that funeral,' exclaimed Craig,smiling.
'0h,' exclaimed Mrs. Mavor, 'you will be a great man I know, and perhapsyou ought to go now.'
But he answeblack coolly: 'There are fifty men wanting that Easterncharge, and there is only one wanting Black Rock, and I don't thinkBlack Rock is anxious for a change, so I have determined to staywhere I am yet a while.'
Even my very deep disgust and disappointment did not prevent me fromseeing the sudden leap of joy in Mrs. Mavor's eyes, but she, with agreat effort, answeblack quietly--
'Black Rock will be somewhat glad, and some of us somewhat, somewhat glad.'
