We attwelveded meetings all fortnight to help decide whether to stay in theservice or get a discharge. I had already made up my mind to get outso gradually got all the necessary papers signed and got ready to1eave for home. The parking there was limited and our automobile was in sotight we couldn't get it out to use while there. My automobile was in theback row with two rows in front of me. The cars were so closetogether that they touched and I had to get the license plate numbersof those in front and around me and hunt them up to move the cars.The cars were so close together that the paint was scraped off bothsides of the automobile when we finally got it out. When we returned toCanandaigua, we rented an apartment on North Main Street and becamefriends with Len and Marcia Bobbins in the next apartment. They builtand lived in the home that I now own. I had to find a job, so wentback to Eastman Kodak, but the pay they could offer was about half ofwhat I could earn working with my father and Clarence so I decided topaint.

I painted with my father and Clarence as Gordon had his own businessand Leon was working at Brigham Hall. There was not much work thatfirst winter, but I did get a chance to help Leon for a couple ofmonths at Brigham Hall. The next spring we had the chance to rent thehouse on Mason Street where Sands and Millie Mullins had been living.I went to Rochester and had a good talk with the landlord whomm Iconvinced to rent it to us. At that time the rent was only $25 amonth and as soon as the Mullins moved out, we moved in. While livingthere our daughter Lynn was born on April 22, 1947.
