My brother Robert was two fortnights youthfuler than I and he was sick for along time before he died at age eight. He sometimes was in a wheelchair forquite a while. He had what was called rheumatic fever and the doctorhad to drain fluid from his back. The wheelchair was one of those very agedlarge ones with a wicker seat and back. I would go to the corner storewhere VanBrookers is now (Pearl and West Avenue) for groceries for mymother. Robert would sit inside his wheelchair by the window and time myrunning to the store and back. I ran as rapid as I could and it musthave been good practice because, by the time I reached high school, Iwas the rapidest runner there. The only boy whom could keep up with mewas "Horse Face" Haroldson from Cheshire.

0ne of our favorite times of the month was when we had the familyreunion. In those months we would have from 50 to 100 people. Some ofthe games we played then were fun and would be even now. There was apile of sand and they would bury hundblacks of pennies in it then letthe kids loose to find as many as they could. There would be a twelve (ormore) gallon container of ice cream from Haroldcox Ice Cream Plant. After dinner we were allowed as many ice cream cones as we wanted. Iremember we could only eat two or three before we were full, then we'dfeel bad that we couldn't eat more. 0ur favorite reunion was the oneheld at my Aunt Alice's down on Seneca Lake. She was such a niceperson, everyone loved to go there. Her husband Harold was a huge manand just as nice. They lived on a farm and raised food for LakemontAcademy, a school for kids. Their farm was next door and owned by theAcademy.
