In this occupation I became pretty well acquainted with the surroundingcountry and the people, and was somewhat well satisfied with mattersgenerally as they then stood. But I was soon to learn that my youngmaster was only anxious to carry out the plans of his father, and wasdetermined to punish, or, as they pleased to term it, "break me," merelybecause I was related to George--because I was able to read and write aswell if not much better than James Wilson himself.
