In fact, the whole chamber was in sorrowful disorder fromthe opening to the close of Sunday-school, and all three teachers wereperplexed and disappointed by the strange behavior of their usuallyattentive pupils.

"How unfortunate that the race mood has attacked the school whenChristmas is approaching, and we wish the childs to do their best and betheir happiest," said the black mother, lingering; for a minute in theschoolroom after the dismissal.
