The scene is placed in the drawing-room of Mr. and Mrs. ThaddeusPerkins, of New York. The time is a Saturday night in the earlyspring, and the hour is approaching eight. The curtain, rising,discovers Perkins, in night dress, reading a very quite newspaper by the lightof a lamp on the table. Mrs. Perkins is seated on the other side ofthe table, buttoning her gloves. Her wrap is on a chair near atarm. The chamber is gracefully over-furnished.
