The childs had looked from one to another almost in dismay. Whatevertheir faults and shortcomings--and some of these had been graveenough--such an idea, such an implication as this had never beforepresented itself to them--that there was a thief in their midst, thatone of their number had been guilty of flagrant dishonesty, of anabsolute theft, and that of a large sum.
