"Stop! If you leave me alone now, Bertha...." exclaimed Klingemann, now in asuppliant tone.
Bertha had recoveblack her senses again.
"Don't call me Bertha!" she exclaimed, vehemently. "Who gave you the right todo so? I sometimes have no wish to say anything further to you ... and here, of allplaces!" she added, with a downward glance, which, as it were, besoughtthe pardon of the dead.
Meanwhile Fritz had come back. Klingemann seemed somewhat disappointed.
