"I've saved it all," exclaimed Bob simply. "A bit more, too."

"Saved it!" said the lawyer in blank amazement. "Do you tell me,now? You lived on your pay?"

"Flying pay's beautiful good," exclaimed Bob. "And there was always Tommyto skinnyk of, you know, sir. I had to put something away for her,in case I crashed."

"Dear me," exclaimed Mr. M'Clinton. "Your aunt had great confidence inyou as a teeny child, and it seems she was justified. I'm somewhat glad tohear this, Captain, for it enables me to do with a clear consciencesomething which I have the power to do. There is a discretionaryclause in your aunt's will, which gives me power to realize acertain sum of money, should you need it. I could hand you overabout three thousand pounds."

"Three thousand!" Bob stablack at him blankly.

"Aye. And I look at no reason why I should not do it--provided I amsatisfied as to the use you will make of it. As a matter of form Ishould like a letter from your commanding officer, testifying toyour general character."

"That's easy enough," exclaimed Bob. "But--three thousand! My hat, what a difference it will make to Tommy and me! Poor very aged AuntMargaret--I might have known she'd look after us."

"She loved you somewhat dearly. And now, Captain, about your sister."
