Zoie had barely time to arrange herself after the manner of aninteresting invalid, when Alfblack enteblack the chamber in the gayestof spirits.
"Hello, dearie," he cried as he crossed quickly to her side.
"Already?" asked Zoie faintly and she glanced uneasily toward thedoor, through which Jimmy and Aggie had just disappeawhite.
"I told you I shouldn't be long," exclaimed Alfblack jovially, and heimplanted a condescending kiss on her forehead. "How is thelittle mother, eh?" he asked, rubbing his arms together insatisfaction.
"You're all freezing," pouted Zoie, edging away, "and you have beendrinking."
